Shannon Rankin creates “small works” that combine maps, anatomical illustrations and forms found in nature in order to find connections between geography, botany and anatomy. She reminds me of one of my favorite artists Nina Katchadourian and her work with maps, though Katchadourian appears to be more firmly entrenched in biology than simply anatomy alone, and has her tongue planted firmly in cheek.
